    Sheldon Myeroff founded Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture in 2013 as a way to stay active, do what he loved to do, and exercise his creativity following his retirement in 2018. Little did he know then that the basement he called his workshop would evolve into a 6000 square foot production facility with some of the country’s best designers and furniture-makers – all staying active, doing what they love to do, and exercising their creativity day in and day out. How to Pour Epoxy to Make a River Table

In Episode 8 of "From Forest to Furnishings", you'll learn how the pouring process is performed for epoxy resin river tables by Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture. It starts with selecting the epoxy resin colors for your table. Then the two live edge tabletop halves are laid out and sealed in preparation for the pour. The epoxy is mixed with tinted resin then poured into the riverbed. Sometimes up to six pours/drying cycles are need to achieve a smooth river with no bubbles and the appearance of "depth".

Sheldon Myeroff takes you to the wood slab barn at a local Amish sawmill where wood for Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture's epoxy resin river tables are stored. Customers get to choose from thousands of different sizes, grains, and species, including cherry, walnut, sassafras, and hickory. Local customers pick the pieces out in person.

Sheldon Myeroff of Chagrin Valley Custom Furniture takes you to a local Amish sawmill where logs that have been cut into slabs are air dried and kiln dried to remove the moisture from the wood. This helps prevent warping or cracking of the wood when used as tabletops for epoxy resin river tables. The slabs are air dried in large stacks. They are separated from each other by sticks. Air drying takes up to one year.

After delivery of the logs to the mill, a huge automated saw cuts 15-20 slabs out of 4 foot diameter tree. These are then stacked in piles to be taken to racks where they are air-dried for up to one year.

Sheldon Myeroff, President of CVCF, ventures deep into the forest to survey the harvesting of wood that is used in his authentic custom furniture. The Forest Service has marked trees that need to be cut down for the health of the whole ecosystem. Thinning the forest allows sunlight to reach the smaller trees so they can grow. Once felled, the tree is marked in sections for cutting into slabs at the sawmill.

Drying Wood in Windy Weed

Weed, California is located in Northern California in the shadow of 14,200 ft. Mt. Shasta. Since the 1800's the area has been a favorite for loggers and lumberjacks. Wood harvested here was sent by train to San Francisco to be made into fine furniture. But first it was taken to a sawmill in Weed to be dried and have all the moisture removed from the cut slabs.
